10. Beans and Gas-Producing Vegetables
Beans, lentils, cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower, and other high-fiber foods are nutritious but can increase bloating and gas, particularly when beginning GLP-1 therapy. Since GLP-1 slows gastric emptying, these foods may exacerbate gastrointestinal discomfort, causing cramps, nausea, or a feeling of fullness too soon. While these foods are healthy, timing and preparation are important to avoid unnecessary side effects during initial adaptation to the medication.
What to Take Instead Introduce fiber gradually and cook beans thoroughly to reduce gas-causing compounds. Steaming or roasting cruciferous vegetables can make them easier to digest. Combining with lean proteins helps reduce bloating and supports digestive comfort.
